Free PSN Codes — Have You Given Up Yet?

Free PSN codes are abundant when you look around on the Internet and in gaming magazines. Since the very early days of video games, from the days of yore when Space Invaders and Pac-Man were all the rage at the arcades, there have always been codes and cheats to enable special modes in games. These “Easter eggs,” as they are sometimes known, are added by the programmers in the hopes that adept game players will discover them for themselves. Everyone remembers playing Mario Bros. or Street Fighter and having to enter a ridiculous sequence of buttons to enable a special mode when the game got too hard — infinite lives, God mode and so on.

In modern games on the Playstation, you can find many of these and they are known as free PSN codes.

The Internet literally took all the fun away!

Now, with the ubiquity of the Internet and all of the available information at our fingertips, all the fun from discovering an Easter egg or a special code like this has been taken out of the occasion.

Even just 10-15 years ago, when the Internet was not that popular, people had to get their cheat codes for computer games once a month when their favorite gaming magazine came out. Or they had to hope their friends were smart enough to figure these things out!

Now, if you’re stuck on a game, all you do is Google something like “PSN code Twisted Metal” and you get a heap of codes that you can use such as Invincibility, Unlimited Ammo, Infinite Turbos, Helicopter View, Hidden Hotel and even a Mirror.

Now, when playing a game, the real temptation is nothing more than trying to resist the urge to search for the next free PSN codes that will let you play on, instead of putting the game down and sleeping on it so that you can figure out the puzzle for the next play session.

Is it ethical to cheat in computer games?

This is a good question that bugs a lot of people. Famous game theorists like David Sirlin argue that the aim of a game is to “play to win”. Philosophers of his caliber will use argumentation from classic works of intrigue, war, power and philosophy such as Sun Tzu’s The Art of War or Machiavelli’s The Princeto argue aphorisms such as “all is fair in love and war” and the “end justifies the means”. They will say it’s only a game, and the programmers intentionally coded those cheats into the game so adept (and sneaky) gamers would discover them.

When playing a multiplayer game though, especially for fun, people would not usually use a cheat code.  You’d just end up with everyone deriding you and never playing with you again. Even in tournaments, these are disabled and if anyone tries to get around this with a hack they would be disqualified. Cheat codes are reserved then for a different kind of fun, otherwise known as “messing around” and their use should not be taken seriously.

Be careful when you are searching on the Internet for these special cheat codes — there are some sides which claim to give you PSN code generator programs or something similar. The only genuine one can be found here at Hacking Edge.
